md5sha1sum provides md5sum, sha1sum, and
ripemd160sum tools that are intended to be drop in replacements for those in GNU textutils. Since
installing textutils is somewhat excessive for just
these utilities, they are meant to be a more compact and easier to install alternative. This is useful on systems such as Solaris or Mac OS X where most of the tools from textutils are already provided by the vendor.
