genext2fs generates an ext2 filesystem as a normal
(non-root) user. It does not require you to mount
the image file to copy files on it, nor does it
require that you become the superuser to make
device nodes.

jsp File Browser is an easy to use and install
file browser in a Java server page. It allows
remote Web-based file access and manipulation,
and supports uploading, copying, moving,
deleting, unpacking, showing, and editing files
on the server. You can also download groups of
files and folders as a single zip file that is
created on the fly.

The purpose of disktype is to detect the content
format of a disk or disk image. It knows about
common file systems, partition tables, and boot codes.

cvsfs is an attempt to let a user mount a CVS project like any file system. It allows you to navigate and browse through a project tree. No preparations are required on the CVS server side.

fam++ is a C++ wrapper for fam, which uses imon or DNotify (Linux 2.4.x) to inform it when inodes change (the net effect being that applications can register interest in a file, and have events send to the application when the file changes). Fam++ also integrates with gdk and Loki to make creation of C++ GTK+/GNOME apps simpler.

kfsmd (kernel filesystem monitor daemon) is a
daemon to log and view kernel filesystem changes
using inotify. Its main purpose is to allow
libferris to reindex all updated files while you
are sleeping.

SMBNetFS is a user-space filesystem for Linux and FreeBSD that allows you browse a Samba/Microsoft network much like the network neighborhood in Microsoft Windows.

Zlibc allows applications to transparently access compressed files. As soon as the application attempts to open a compressed file, zlibc uncompresses the data on the fly. No kernel patch, no recompilation of the executables nor the libraries is needed.

fusedav is a userspace WebDAV filesystem driver for Linux using FUSE and neon.

GdMap is a tool which allows you to visualize disk
space. To display directory structures, cushion
treemaps are used to visualize a complete folder
or even the whole hard drive with one picture.

ccgfs is a transport-agnostic network filesystem using FUSE. Transport is arranged by helper programs, such as SSH. The PUSH transport mode acts like a "reverse" NFS and makes it possible to export a filesystem from a firewalled host without defeating the security model.

Einarc is a unified storage RAID command line
interface and an API that provides management for
various hardware/software RAID devices, uniting
them all in a single paradigm. Einarc works as a
translator that makes it possible for a user to
control all these devices using simple terms like
"physical disc", "logical disc", "adapter", etc.,
while transparently converting these requests to
proprietary RAID paradigms.

Linux, in the tradition of UNIX-like operating systems, implements file system permissions using a rather coarse scheme. While this is sufficient for a surprisingly large set of applications, it is too inflexible for many other scenarios. For that reason, all the major commercial UNIX operating systems have extended this simple scheme in one way or the other. This is an effort to implement POSIX-like Access Control Lists for Linux. Access Control Lists are built on top of Extended Attributes, which can also be used to associate other pieces of information with files such as Filesystem Capabilities, or user data like mime type and search keywords.

RFSTOOL allows you to access ReiserFS partitions
from a Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP system. It
also allows you to access ReiserFS partitions from
Linux. It is a complete rewrite of the ReiserFS
functions needed to list directories, copy files,
and backup metadata.

The devfsd program is a daemon, run by the system
boot, which can provide for intelligent management
of device entries in the Device Filesystem
(devfs). It is desirable to start the daemon at
the beginning of the boot scripts, in particular
before filesystem checks.
