この manpage はよくわからないまま訳しています。そもそも原文自体、
printer と destination と printer queue の区別が曖昧ですし。
おかしいところがあったら、ご指摘ください。以下は質問です。
1)
lpadmin configures printer and class queues provided by CUPS. It can
also be used to set the server default printer or class.
lpadmin は CUPS が提供するプリンタ・キューやクラス・キューの設定を
行う。また、これを使って、サーバのデフォルトのプリンタやクラスを指定
することもできる。
二番目の文章がちょっとたどたどしい。
また、このコマンドを使って、サーバのデフォルトとなるプリンタやクラスを
指定することもできる。
また、このコマンドを使って、どのプリンタやクラスをサーバのデフォルトに
するかを決めることもできる。
たいして変わらないかもしれません。よい案があったら、ご教示ください。
2) -m オプションというのは、-i オプションと -P オプションを兼ねたような
もの (言い換えれば、-i や -P の代わりに使えるもの) なんですか。

IPP サプライレベルの値を報告するか、しないかを指定する。
-o cupsSNMPSupplies=true
-o cupsSNMPSupplies=false
Specifies whether SNMP supply level (RFC 3805) values should be
reported.
SNMP サプライレベル (RFC 3805) の値を報告するか、しないかを
指定する。
supply level が何だかわからないので、カタカナにしておきました。
report は「報告する」か「通知する」か、どちらがよいでしょう。

-o port-monitor=name
Sets the binary communications program to use when printing,
"none", "bcp", or "tbcp". The default program is "none". The
specified port monitor must be listed in the printer's PPD file.
印刷時に使用するバイナリ・コミュニケーションズ・プログラムを設定す
る。 "none", "bcp, "tbcp" のどれかであり、デフォルトのプログラムは
"none (なし)" である。 指定するポート・モニターは、プリンタの PPD
ファイルに記載されていなければならない。
"the binary communications program" をカタカナにしておきました。
これで通るでしょうか。

-o printer-is-shared=true/false
Sets the destination to shared/published or unshared/unpublished.
Shared/published destinations are publicly announced by the server
on the LAN based on the browsing configuration in cupsd.conf,
while unshared/unpublished destinations are not announced. The
default value is "true".
出力先を shared/published と unshared/unpublished のどちらかに
設定する。 shared/published に指定した出力先は、cupsd.conf の
browsing に関する設定に基づき、サーバーが LAN に対して存在を
公開する。unshared/unpublished に指定した出力先の方は、存在を
公開しない。デフォルトの値は "true" である。
"publicly announced" は「公開する」「公示する」、どちらがよいでしょう。
ほかに、もっとよい訳語があるかもしれませんが。

-v "device-uri"
Sets the device-uri attribute of the printer queue. If device-uri
is a filename it is automatically converted to the form
file:///file/name. Use the -v option with the lpinfo(8) command to
get a list of supported device URIs and schemes.
プリンタ・キューの device-uri 属性を設定する。device-uri がファイ
ル名の場合は、file:///file/name の形に自動的に変換される。
lpinfo(8) コマンドに -v オプションを付けて実行すれば、利用できる
デバイス URI とスキーマのリストを見ることができる。
「スキーマ」ではなく、「スキーム」ですね。日本語だと何と言えばよいので
しょう。「方式」「接続方式 (方法)」ぐらいですか。それとも「スキーム
(訳注: parallel, usb, ipp, lpd, smb など) のリスト」とした方がよいで
しょうか。考えてみると、file もスキームなんでしょうから、「接続方式」は
おかしいかもしれません。では、何と言えばよいのでしょう。

-D "info"
Provides a textual description of the destination.
出力先の「説明」となる短文を指定する。
-L "location"
Provides a textual location of the destination.
出力先が設置されている「場所」を示す短文を指定する。
http://localhost:631/printers/ の「説明」と「場所」に表示される
テキストのことです。ここの訳は苦心したのですが、うまく行っているとは
自分でも思えません。もっとよい案がないでしょうか。

system configuration. ---- (以下省略) ----
最後に、CUPS 版の lpadmin では、印刷システムの設定次第で、
ユーザに対してアクセス用のパスワードを求めることができる。
これは一般ユーザが
/usr/sbin/lpadmin -U root -p lp -D "default printer"
などとすると、root のパスワードを訊いてくることを言っているのでしょうか。
9) 追加。
2) の質問とつながっているのですが、-i、-m、-P オプションの説明は、
以下のような文に揃えてしまいましょうか。
-i interface
Sets a System V style interface script for the printer.
This option cannot be specified with the -P option (PPD file)
and is intended for providing support for legacy printer drivers.
-m model
Sets a standard System V interface script or PPD file for
the printer from the model directory or using one of the driver
interfaces. Use the -m option with the lpinfo(8) command to
get a list of supported models.
-P ppd-file
Specifies a PostScript Printer Description file to use with
the printer. If specified, this option overrides the -i option
(interface script).
-i interface
プリンタに対して、System V 式のインターフェース・スクリプトを
指定する。このオプションを、(PPD ファイルを指定する)
-P オプションと一緒に使うことはできない。このオプションは、
レガシーなプリンタドライバに対するサポートを提供するためにある。
-m model
プリンタに対して、標準的な System V のインターフェース・
スクリプトや PPD ファイルを指定する。そうしたスクリプトや
PPDファイルの指定は、model ディレクトリを基点として行うか、
あるいは、ドライバ・インターフェースの一つを使用して行うかする。
lpinfo(8) コマンドに -m オプションを付けて実行すると、
サポートされているモデルのリストを見ることができる。
-P
プリンタに対して、PostScript Printer Description ファイル
(PPD ファイル) を指定する。このオプションを指定すると、(インター
フェース・スクリプトを指定する) -i オプションは無効になる。
