It is highly customizable, easy to use, and feature rich. Freedomotic is an open, flexible, scalable, mashup-oriented software system which can interact with well-known standard building automation protocols and with "do-it-yourself" solutions. It treats the Web, social networks, and frontends just like any other sensor or actuator in your automation system. For example, you can tweet your washing machine to start the washing cycle. Freedomotic leverages modern enterprise integration patterns and distributed computing architectures, along with cross-language APIs for extensions.

Stantor-Domodulor is a home automation software system. It lets you manage electric and electronic facilities through Web pages and WAP 2 and 1 for smartphones. Stantor can drive Velleman k8000/k8055/k8061 boards, Ethernet and USB Arduino Mega, Uno and Duemilanove boards, X10 materials, USB webcams, and sound boards. Stantor correspondents can sent alerts via email and instant messaging. The Linux distributions supported are Ubuntu, Fedora, and Mandriva.

openSCADA is a Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition System. It is platform independent and based on a modern system design that provides security and flexibility at the same time. It is flexible. It is not an out of the box solution, but a set of tools that can be combined in many different ways. It provides development libraries, interface applications, mass configuration tools, and front-end and back-end applications. It is used 24/7 in several installations around this world. TOEJAM is a telephone answering machine. It uses a
voice modem as the base of an IVR system, and
sends its results via email. Only the US Robotics
56K Pro Msg is currently supported, though the USR
Sportster may work.

LinuxMCE is an add-on to Kubuntu that provides a complete whole-house media solution. It provides PVR and distributed media functions. It is stable, easy to use, and requires no knowledge of Linux and only basic computer skills. It allows you to set up a computer system that centralizes audio/video equipment, allowing you to access all media functions in other rooms with only thin clients. It supports home automation protocols including KNX, EIB, Z-Wave, DMX, EnOcean, and PLCBUS.

GNU Phantom.Home is a computer controlled home automation system. The software includes a circuit diagram for building the Phantom.Home.Controller, a simple circuit board that attaches to your PC's parallel port. Using the combination of hardware/software you can control (i.e. flip on or off) nearly any 120V device. And with a little bit of electronics know-how, you can probably control nearly any device at any voltage by modifying the circuit board to meet your needs. The simple circuit included can be created and built for around $25. The modules cost around $10 (basically a heavy duty relay).

OpenNetHome is a home automation software project with a focus on being able to mix different technologies. It currently supports a number of different RF transceivers for controlling remote switches and receiving temperature and moisture data. It also supports Philips Hue lights. Its user interface is Web based, but all features are also accessible via a TCP/IP interface. It supports plugins for new features but also for new protocol encoders/decoders. Also included is a signal analyzer tool for reverse engineering new RF protocols.
